Snake River Falls

On Friday, August 2nd, 2024, Cedar Point announced Snake River Falls will be retired after the 2024 season. Snake River Falls has been in Operation for 31 years and was the tallest and fastest log flume ride when it opened.

Riders will have until September 2nd, 2024 to experience this attraction before it’s permanently closed. The water rides at Cedar Point normally operate between Memorial Day and Labor Day even though the park opens in early May and doesn’t close for the season until after Halloween with HalloWeekends.

This comes shortly after a similarly named ride was also closed, Snake River Expedition, which did not open for the 2024 Season.

A New Expansion

In the announcement, Cedar Point spokesperson Tony Clark said that Snake River Falls is closing to make way for a new expansion, but didn’t release any specific details.

The article did mention that Cedar Point tries to honor the past when rides go end of life, hinting that whatever is set to replace Snake River Falls in this area may be themed similarly or have nods to the past. Some examples are when the Maverick Roller Coaster was stood up, it actually uses the old Shoot the Rapids station that was there before it.

Our Theory

Cedar Point sent surveys out earlier this year asking guests what they would prefer to see next, which included a Family Thrill Coaster, a Water Coaster, a Tilt Coaster, or a Tower Coaster. Of all of these renderings, we think the most likely thing to replace Snake River Falls is a Water Coaster.

The area sits right over a body of water a near the Snake River, making it the perfect location for a Water Coaster.
