What Is Winterfest?

Winterfest is a holiday event hosted at multiple Legacy Cedar Fair Parks, including Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Canada’s Wonderland, Californias Great America, Carowinds, and Knott’s Berry (Merry) Farm.

The event is themed to the Holidays and adds live entertainment, parades and more in addition to the standard theme park experience. Since it takes place in the fall and winter months, not all of the rides will be in operation during the visit depending on the location, but there is plenty of live entertainment, shows, and more to fill your visit during Winterfest.

When is Winterfest?

Winterfest starts as early as November 15th for some parks and runs as late as Jan 4th at some parks. Check the links below for the schedule and information!

The event runs mostly on Weekends, but it runs daily at most parks near Christmas while the kids are out of school. I recommend checking the individual park you would like to visit before heading out.

Entertainment

At Winterfest, guests can ice skate, bake cookies with Mrs. Claus, see the Wonderland parade, and more They have live entertainment like singing and shows and they also host a broadway type show in their theaters at most parks.

Kings Island Shows

Kings Island Activities

There’s enough events to keep guests busy for the entire operating hours per day at Winterfest. You can usually expect Winter fest to be open for only about 6-8 hours ish per day, but check the parks website to be sure! This year, their is a new show at

Rides

Not all ride are open during Winterfest, but usually a few kids rides, flat rides, and a couple coasters will be open during the event. We love trying to catch a train at Winterfest since they usually decorate it for Christmas with the lights!

Kings Island Attractions

Dress warm! Especially if you plan on riding an outdoor coaster! For this year, they are adding Snoopy’s Soap Box Racers and Racer roller coaster to the available rides at King’s Island!

Food

Your Season dining plan is valid at Winterfest! This is a great perk for those season pass holders. They also offer speciality dining at some of the parks and have some special holiday themed food too! At King’s Island, I love stopping at Enrique’s and eating in the VIP Lounge!

Six Flags Holiday in the Park

Now that Cedar Fair and Six Flags have merged, will the holiday event Winterfest and Holiday in the park be merged under one event name? I think they will all move to Winterfest starting in 2025, but we will see!

Some Legacy Six Flags parks will have host a “Holiday In the Park” event similar to Winterfest. We haven’t experienced Holiday in the Park, but we are looking forward to checking it out next year once the All Park Passport allows Legacy Cedar Fair season pass holders to visit Legacy Six Flags parks starting on Jan 4, 2025.
