Six Flags Entertainment Corporation will relocate its corporate headquarters from Charlotte, North Carolina, to its existing Arlington, Texas, offices in 2027.
The move feels like another sign of a major leadership reset following the 2024 merger with Cedar Fair.
Charlotte made sense at the time. Cedar Fair shareholders received a slight majority of the combined company, Cedar Fair CEO Richard Zimmerman became CEO, and legacy Six Flags CEO Selim Bassoul became executive chairman. Cedar Fair had also already established major corporate operations in Charlotte.
Both Zimmerman and Bassoul have since departed, along with several other merger-era leaders. Under new CEO John Reilly, Six Flags is beginning to look much different from the Cedar Fair-led company created immediately after the merger.
Arlington also carries symbolic importance: Six Flags Over Texas opened there in 1961 as the original Six Flags park. The company still has corporate offices in Arlington, while the Dallas–Fort Worth airport provides convenient access to parks across North America.
Texas’ lack of an individual state income tax could also help attract and retain corporate employees, although Six Flags has not identified taxes as the reason for the move. No relocation incentive package has been announced, and the company reportedly received no government incentives when it selected Charlotte.
Charlotte represented the Cedar Fair-led merger era. Returning to the birthplace of Six Flags feels like a clear reset—and perhaps a sign that the company is ready to define its next chapter.
