Kentucky Mammoth Cave National Park

We drove down to Kentucky for a Mammoth Cave Tour! We found. great VRBO nearby that also allowed our dogs to tag along too and make their debut on Kerney-cation! The Farmhouse was beautiful and the kids loved the opportunity to pet and see the animals (Link in video description).

Historical Cave Tour

For our cave tour, we chose the historical tour. The historical tour was led by two guides and consisted of about 100 guests. The pace for the tour was moderately fast and we found it difficult to keep up with two toddlers without our stroller. Some friends recommended the Discovery Tour since it’s at your own pace. Definitely try and book this if you can and you have littles!

The Discovery Tour itself was great! The Mammoth Cave is truly magnificent and the park does a great job with lighting the cave for a unique experience. Definitely a must do for any fans of the outdoors (or indoors in this case!). The tour lasted about an hour and a half from start to finish. There are some great trails, so be sure to check them out before your tour or after if you are spending the day at the Welcome Center.

Some of our tour footage is SHAKY! Sorry in advance. No Gimbals were allowed on the tour and I had a to carry one of our kids during the tour. The tour also discourages taking pictures so members can keep up with the rest of the group, so the Historical Tour is more for “your eyes and ears only” if you really want to hear the historical facts presented from the tour guides.

VRBO Farmhouse

Since the drive was about 6-8 hours from home, we stayed in a VRBO home rental. We loved the ability to bring our dogs along on this adventure! Not all VRBOs allow pets, but we made sure to find one that did! On the property, there were goats, sheep, and horses! The goats were extremely friendly and the horses stopped by for a snack!

It was nice to unwind at a private home on the farm! Nothing luck enjoying a cup of coffee on the farm in the early hours of the day! Worth getting up for! We will definitely try and stay at this location again if we visit the Mammoth Cave in the future.
