Ranking Cedar Points Roller Coasters!
I wanted to take some time this week and think about the top 5 roller coasters at Cedar Point, the Roller coaster capital of the world!
TLDR Version:
#5 – Valravn
#4 – Millennium Force
#3 – Maverick
#2 – Steel Vengeance
#1 – Top Thrill 2
Cedar Point has been well known for their record breaking coasters. They achieved the first coaster over 200 feet (magnum), the first coaster over 300 feet ( Millennium Force, and the first coaster over 400 feet (defunct Top Thrill Dragster, now Top Thrill 2).
Although Top Thrill 2 is currently closed for the season, I am going to include it in the rankings. Each coaster is so vastly different that they all could seriously be #1 based on your favorite type of coaster, so here we go!
#5 – Valravn – A B&M Dive Coaster
Valravn opened in 2016 and it’s still the tallest Dive coaster in the USA. Dice coasters are roller coasters that stop and dangle riders at the top before dropping into at 90 degree or more drop. It would be the tallest in the world if not for Yukon Striker at Canada’s Wonderland.
Valravn drops riders at 223 feet and at 75 MPH! Riders also get a second dangle drop at 131 feet. This is a great ride and usually holds one of the highest ride wait times in the park.
Cool fact about Valravn is that if you view it from the right angle, the track spells out Ohio!
#4 – Millennium Force – Intamin Steel Coaster
The Worlds first coaster over 300 feet or “Giga” coaster debuted in 2000 at Cedar Point. This ride drops rides from 310 feet and reaches speeds up to 93 MPH!
Millennium Force consistently won best steel coaster until one over at Points sister parks built Fury 325 in 2016. Overall I love this ride and it’s definitely a must ride during a visit to Cedar Point. Just be careful on those night rides in the front row! You’re likely to splatter a few bugs!
#3 – Maverick – Intamin Steel Launch Coaster
Maverick opened in 2007, but it didn’t break any records on top speed or height! Maverick debuted as the manufacturers first LSM launch coaster. Riders are boosted up the lift hill to a whopping 95 degree drop, and then through twists and turns until getting launched in the tunnel below the station from 0-70 MPH in 3 seconds.
Maverick consistently has at least an hour wait in the park and it’s my favorite go to ride for a quick ride using a single lane fast lane since it takes you right to the station. Other rides like millennium and steel vengeance inject you into the line about 20 minute wait, so you never have the chance fora wait below 15 minutes.
#2 – Steel Vengeance RMC Hybrid Coaster
Steel Vengeance opened in 2018 after Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) converted Mean Streak into this brand new attraction.
Steel Vengeance is an amazing ride and an airtime king! Meaning you experience negative g forces or the feeling of floating out of your seat. Steel vengeance riders experience up to 30 seconds of airtime, which is more than any roller coaster in the world!
Steel vengeance is also the longest hybrids coaster in the world! Hybrids coasters are coasters that consist of wood and steel.
Steel Vengeance drops riders at 205 feet at 74 MPH and it’s a must ride at Cedar Point . Guests must leave all loose articles in a provided locker and pass through a metal detector before riding.
#1 – Top Thrill 2 – Zamperla LSM Launch Coaster
Yea , I know it was only open for two weeks for the 2024 season, but this is my absolute favorite rollercoaster at Cedar Point.
Top Thrill 2 replaced the now defunct Top Thrill Dragster after an accident in 2021 left a guest in line permanently injected a guest in line.
After two years of closure, Top Thrill Dragster was replaced with Top Thrill 2.
Top Thrill 2 added a new 420 foot reverse spike in addition to the previous 420 foot top hat. Instead of a single launch to 120 MPH, guests are launched 74 MpH forward, the. 101 MPH backwards, and up the spike, then 120 MPH up and over the top hat.
The reverse spike and reverse launch really make this my favorite ride in the park. You can’t experience anything else like it in the park or in the world.
Currently, the roller coaster manufacturer has delayed repairs to trains until 2025. Really hoping to ride it again on opening day for 2025!
Good coaster review…T.K.
