Cedar Point officially kicked off its 157th season, and we were there on Opening Day 2026 to see what was new, test out the crowd levels, and share smart tips for families planning their visit.
If you’re heading to Cedar Point soon, especially on weekends, there are definitely a few things you’ll want to know before you go.

Opening Day Crowds Were HUGE
Let’s start with the biggest takeaway: Opening Day was packed.
We arrived around 8:45 a.m. for Early Entry and security lines were already stretched far down the sidewalk and through the parking lot. Even with multiple lanes open, it still took around 30 minutes to get through security and into the park.
That said, Cedar Point’s team did a solid job handling the volume of guests.
Our biggest recommendation?

Get there EARLY.
If you’re visiting on a busy Saturday, arriving 15–20 minutes before Early Entry (or park open if you don’t have Early Entry) makes a huge difference.
New for Cedar Point in 2026
There were several noticeable updates throughout the park this year.
New Entrance Traffic Pattern
One of the first things guests will notice is the new roundabout near Cedar Point’s entrance, creating a different traffic flow before reaching the causeway.

Barrels & Bites Preview
Cedar Point is heavily promoting its brand-new Barrels & Bites event, running June 5–28 along Frontier Trail.
The entrance signage and décor already looked fantastic and gave major throwback vibes to Frontier Festival.
Starbucks Remodel
The front-of-park Starbucks received updates aimed at improving efficiency and guest flow. Hotel Breakers’ Starbucks also received offseason updates.
Pagoda Gift Shop Changes
One of our favorite updates? The new indoor connection between Pagoda Gift Shop, Sweet Spot, and Peanuts Place.
This makes shopping much more convenient — and air-conditioned during those hot Ohio summer days.

Early Entry Strategy Worked
Despite the crowds, Early Entry still paid off.
We focused on Kiddie Kingdom first, which worked out great for our family. We were able to knock out multiple rides before crowds built up.
For thrill seekers, Early Entry included:
- Top Thrill 2
- Siren’s Curse
- Millennium Force
- GateKeeper
Siren’s Curse was incredibly popular all day with waits reaching 90–120 minutes.

Top Thrill 2 Looked Strong
Good news for coaster fans: Top Thrill 2 was running well early in the day.
The ride appeared to operate consistently from Early Entry through early afternoon before experiencing downtime later.
Fast Lane waits hovered around 45 minutes, while standby often pushed 90 minutes or more.
Family Areas: What to Know
Families should note:
Planet Snoopy remains closed until Memorial Day, which means Camp Snoopy may feel busier than normal for younger kids.
Camp Snoopy crowds actually weren’t too bad during the morning, but definitely picked up later.
Frontier Trail, pony rides, the barnyard, and the train were all great lower-stress options on an otherwise busy day.
Food Lines Were Rough
If there was one challenge of Opening Day, it was food.
Meal plan locations saw extremely long lines throughout much of the day.
Our advice:
- Eat earlier than normal
- Take advantage of the diner opening at 10 a.m.
- Use mobile strategy (if available)
- Be flexible with meal timing
By early afternoon, some locations had lines stretching out the doors.
Was Cedar Point Opening Day Worth It?
For us — yes, but with adjusted expectations.
Opening Day is more about soaking in the excitement, checking out what’s new, and enjoying the atmosphere than marathon riding every coaster.
Because we’re passholders, we focused on family rides, updates, and experiences instead of waiting two hours for major attractions.
If you’re planning a visit soon:
Go early, pack patience, and prioritize what matters most to your family.
The crowds were intense, but Cedar Point still delivered a fun day at the park.
