20th Anniversary for Sandusky Kalahari!
Earlier this fall, Kalahari released a press release where they announced an investment of $10.5 Million dollars into their existing Sandusky Location for their 20th anniversary in 2025!
“Updates to the resort include two new restaurants, a lobby renovation, and a new waterslide experience. Currently under construction, the new amenities are estimated to open by the end of year.”
A Brand New Waterslide – Opening December 20, 2024!
Enter “Dawn Breaker“! According to the release, this one of kind slide will two passenger tubes go through the night chasing the dawn with a boomerang effect. Based on the site, it sounds like kids over 42” will be able ride, but may need an adult/companion with them. We can’t wait to check this boomerang slide this Winter!
Brand New Main Lobby – Opening December 20, 2024!
After some changes we have seen this past year, the main lobby is getting a full refresh! I wanted to mention this upcoming change before going into the Dining and Shopping changes below to show “where” these new venues will be!
Base on the design above from Kalahari, the Main Lobby will be completely transformed since our last visit to Kalahari in the video below!
The old check in kiosks/desks are moving to where the fireplace was across from Sorontinos, the current front desk/kiosk location will be replaced with MACs, a Macaroni and Cheese Dining Location, Cinco Nino’s will replace Great Karoo Buffet, the Marrakesh Market will replace the Great Karoo Marketplace, The Last Bite is moving to where Build a Bear was, Build a Bear will move downstairs, and Java Manjaro is going where Last Bite was.
There is also a new “Emerald Lounge” for VIP check-ins. I have not seen this before, but we will definitely try and check it out on our next visit!
As you can see, IT’S GOING TO BE VERY DIFFERENT!
Brand New Dining Locations
The remodeling will include two new dining venues at Kalahari Sandusky, which will also see the demise of the Great Karoo Marketplace Buffet.
MACS – Opening December 13th , 2024!
First, MACs will be added as a brand new dining venue at Sandusky Kalahari in the main “updated” Lobby. MACS is a macaroni and cheese dining experience that has multiple locations in Wisconsin already and has already been added to the Kalahari in Round Rock Texas with great results.
This venue looks sooo good and we can’t wait to try it. Our kids love Mac and cheese, but can be picky like most kids when it comes to macaroni and cheese. Looking at the Round Rock Menu , they do have a kids menu!
Cinco Ninos – Opening December 20, 2024!
I think I am most excited for this, even more than a brand new Slide! Kalahari will be opening a New Mexican restaurant, Cinco Ninos in place of the Great Karoo Buffet.
According to the release “Cinco Niños is an exciting new modern Mexican eatery and tequila bar. Cinco Niños first opened at the Kalahari Resorts’ Round Rock resort and expanded to Pocono Manor,
Wisconsin Dells, and now Sandusky.
The signature restaurant will feature Mexican favorites including quesadillas, enchiladas, fajitas, and tacos. The restaurant will also feature a full-service bar, offering signature tequila and mezcal drinks such as the Millionaire’s Margarita and the Spicy Watermelon Martini.”
Additional Changes
Marrakesh Market – Opening December 20, 2024!
The Marrakesh Market will be located in the same place as the Great Karoo Marketplace based on the map above. I don’t expect a ton of changes from Great Karoo to Marrakesh Market, but we will definitely check it out during our next visit!
Newly Renovated Guest Rooms
In our last video, we did see some of the recent renovated rooms while walking around the resort. We will definitely try and stay in one in our next visit and see what’s changed!
Emerald VIP Check In
I don’t remember this being in the Lobby during our last visit, but it could have been there and we just opted not to have the VIP Check In.
Based on some quick research, it looks like the Emerald VIP lounge is available at other Kalahari locations, like the Poconos location in Pennsylvania . It sounds like it’s included in some room packages (maybe Suites) and is also available for an add on purchase.
