What’s New for 2024???

Thunder Striker!

The first change that has gained the most media attention is the re-theming of one of their popular roller coasters, Intimidator. Intimidator is one of two Cedar Fair roller coasters themed to the NASCAR race car driver, Dale Earnhardt.

Unfortunately, Cedar Fair did not renew the licensing agreement to use the Dale Earnhardt Intellectual Property at Carowinds or Kings Dominion, so Intimidator at Carowinds has been re-themed to Thunder Striker and Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion has been re-themed to Project 305 (potentially a temporary name).

The Dale Earnhardt car can no longer be seen near the attraction and Victory Lane Gift Shop is also getting a re-theme to Earl’s Garage. The ride is the same, but all mentions of Dale Earnhardt have been removed.

Carowinds Music Fest!

Live Music at Carowinds is back for the 2024 season! Carowinds Music Fest will host 10 events this summer featuring 30 different Artists at the onsite amphitheater, the Palladium. Attendance to the Music is FREE with park admission, this includes season pass holders!

Some of the artists already announced are LeAnn Rimes, Skillet, and Flo Rida, but we can expect 27 artists to be announced over the next couple of months. Some of these artists are likely to perform on the same day, since there are only 10 events currently scheduled. For more information, check out Carowinds official blog post.

Current Extended Ride Closures

On opening day, a few rides were listed on under “Extended Closures”. The Hurler roller coaster received a retrack over the offseason, and will likely re-open soon. For more information on the Hurler, check out Carowinds official blog post detailing the work.

In the Camp Snoopy Area, the Peanut’s Amphitheater and Snoopy’s Junction are both closed. It is unclear why these attractions have not reopened in the 2024 season, but it is rumored that these two attractions could be closing in favor of a new attraction in Camp Snoopy.

In early March, Carowinds filed a permit for “Project Sparrow” and it could be for something to go into Camp Snoopy. Some current rumors believe that it could be a Vekoma Family Boomerang Roller Coaster, similar to what King’s Island and has announced for the 2024-2025 seasons.

The Vortex roller coaster has not re-opened yet for the 2024 season at the time of writing this post, but this is because yet received some fresh new paint during the offseason. Vortex is now back to its original color scheme of red and black.

Lastly, Zephyr, has not re-opened for the 2024 season at this time, it is unclear why the ride is listed for an extended closure, but it could be for ride maintenance. Let us know if you have any ideas in the comments below!
