Epic Universe
Universal Orlando is opening a third gate in 2025, Epic Universe. This new theme park will be close in proximity to their two existing parks, Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. Epic Universe will be home to five unique themed areas, including Harry Potter, Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, Celestial Park, and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk.
Universal Orlando released attraction, show, and dining information today for one of these themed lands, How to Train Your Dragon, the Isle of Berk!
How To Train Your Dragon – The Isle of Berk
Based on the How to Train Your Dragon movies, the Isle of Berk takes place between the second and third movies on the Viking’s home island of Berk. During this time in the movies the Dragons and people live together in harmony.
Universal Orlando announced four attractions, one show, and one dining location for this new themed area.
Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
The first announced attraction is a family launched roller coaster called Hiccup’s Wing Gliders. This roller coaster will have a minimum height requirement of 40″ to ride with a supervising companion or 48″ to ride alone.
This attraction boasts to take riders flying through the land and skimming above water just like riding a dragon!
Here is the official description from Universal Orlando “From Hiccup’s workshop comes his latest contraption: a winged flying machine that launches aspiring Dragon Riders into the air, swooping and soaring and encountering Hiccup and Toothless along the way. Get ready to board Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, a fun coaster that invites Vikings to prove they’re brave enough to speed through the sky with dragons.”
Dragon’s Racer Rally
A Sky ride from Gerstlauer, Dragon Racer’s Rally simulates something very important to the Berk’s, Dragon racing! This flat ride boasts amazing flight while giving the ability for riders to choose how much spin they wish to endure during the ride’s duration. Riders must be at least 48″ to ride.
Here is the official description from Universal Orlando, “The sport of dragon racing is a celebrated pastime on the Isle of Berk. At Dragon Racer’s Rally, Berk’s new Vikings can practice aerobatic maneuvers and high-speed barrel rolls on a Viking-made dragonriding trainer. You’ll need these high-flying, gravity-defying, swooping and soaring skills if you hope to become a champion dragon racer.”
Fyre Drill
Fyre Drill is a family water ride where riders take aim at over one hundred moving targets. This is a water ride, so expect to get wet! There is no height limit for this attraction, but children must be able to ride, and those under 48″ must ride with a supervising companion.
Here is the official description from Universal Orlando: “With fire-breathing dragons everywhere, villagers have to be prepared. Viking twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut have transformed Berk’s Fyre Skööl into a watery, interactive boat battle at sea. Board your ship in Fyre Drill and blast your water cannons at flame-like targets – and the occupants of every other boat – to out-soak other Vikings.”
Viking Training Camp
Viking Training Camp is a kids play area with a jungle gym! This is a great addition to the park and a great place for the kids to get some of their energy out. If your like me, I usually end up pushing my two toddlers in a stroller during a park day. Having a jungle gym is great for kids to get out of the stroller and give the parents a break! I am looking forward to grabbing some Mead from the mead hall and relaxing while the kids play!
Here is the official description from Universal Orlando, “At Viking Training Camp, junior Vikings will discover all types of dragons in this sprawling, colorful, interactive play area. Adventures include multiple towers to climb and explore, a fun agility course, Viking drums and chimes to play, an interactive sheep launcher game, plus slides and activities for the youngest Vikings.”
The Untrainable Dragon Show
In addition to four attractions, one show has been announced, the Untrainable dragon. This show boasts broadway level entertainment and special effects! The Universal Studios in Beijing does currently have a How to Train Your Dragon themed land and show, but this show will be different according to Universal, since the Isle of Berk takes place in a different time, between movies two and three.
Here is the official description from Universal Orlando, “When a new dragon shows up on the Isle of Berk, the Vikings think they may have finally met their match. Hiccup and Toothless, with help from Gobber and Astrid, work together to solve the mystery of The Untrainable Dragon. Experience the wonder of dragons onstage and soaring overhead in this spectacular, music-filled, heart-warming live show.”
Mead Hall Dining Location
The Mead Hall will be a quick service location that offers hearty viking fare, such as Meats, fish, and alcoholic drinks for those 21+, which include Ciders, Ales, and Meads. I am really excited for the theming in this dining venue, and I hope it rivals that of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter’s The Three Broom Sticks or the Leaky Cauldron. The venue looks amazing and we can’t wait to experience it.
Here is the official description from Universal Orlando: “Here’s the place to eat and drink like a Viking! The massive Mead Hall is Berk’s main gathering place, a grand chamber hewn from mountain rock where Vikings feast on a hearty menu including meat, fish, sandwiches and desserts. Beverages include assorted meads, ciders and ales.”
Character Meet and Greets
In addition to the attractions, dining, and shows, guests can visit with some of their favorite characters in the Isle of Berk.
According to Universal Orlando, “Visit the Haddock Paddock and meet Hiccup and Toothless. You may meet Astrid with Stormfly, and other favorite Vikings and dragons around Berk. You might even catch dragons flying high overhead.
Honor the bond between dragon and Viking at the Haddock Paddock, where you’ll get to meet and pose for photos with the heroic Hiccup and the friendly Night Fury dragon, Toothless.
From Astrid and Stormfly to Ruffnut and Tuffnut, you’ll meet some of your favorite Vikings and dragons throughout the Isle of Berk.”
